How to Prepare the Perfect Espresso with the DeLonghi Magnifica Super Automatic Espresso Maker


If you’ve ever watched espresso being made in a bustling café in Italy, you know that there is an art, as well as a science, to preparing the perfect cup. Practice does make perfect, but there’s an advantage in owning a Magnifica espresso maker. It’s so easy to use, and so consistent in producing perfect espresso, you’ll look positively professional.




If you are using the Magnifica for the first time: Move the milk frother towards the outside and place a cup underneath the frother. Then turn the Magnifica on by pressing the button. After a few seconds, a little water will release from the frother. When the cup is 1/3 full, turn the steam knob half a turn clockwise to stop the water flow.

Step1:
Remove the water tank and fill it with water. Replace the water tank and make sure the power cord is plugged into the outlet.

Step 2:
Wait for the and lights to stop flashing. When the lights are flashing, the machine is still pre-heating. The Magnifica will automatically perform a rinse cycle and a little hot water will release from the coffee spouts and collect in the drip tray.

Step 3:
Once the and lights illuminate steadily, the Magnifica has reached the ideal temperature for making espresso/coffee and is now ready for use.



Step 4:
Fill the bean container with coffee beans.

If you are using pre-ground espresso/coffee, lift the lid on the pre-ground coffee container and add just one measure of pre-ground coffee to prepare one espresso/coffee. Note: Only use pre-ground coffee specifically for use in espresso machines.

Step 5:
Adjust the right-hand knob (Flavor Dial) to set the desired taste of the espresso/coffee. Adjust the left-hand knob (Quantity Dial) to set the quantity of espresso/coffee.

Step 6:
Place one cup under the coffee spouts to make one espresso/coffee (or 2 cups to make 2 espresso/coffees). Note: If using a small cup, make sure to adjust the spout for that height.

Step 7:
If you are using coffee beans, press the button to make one cup of espresso/coffee or the button to make 2 espresso/coffees.

If you are using pre-ground espresso/coffee, first press the button to disable the coffee grinder function. Then, press the button.

Step 8:
The Magnifica will now grind the beans, run a short pre-brewing cycle and then complete the delivery. Once the desired quantity is reached, the Magnifica will automatically stop delivering the espresso/coffee and will then discharge the coffee grounds into the used coffee container.

Step 9:
After a few seconds, when both the green and indicator lights are steadily illuminated, another espresso/coffee can be made.

If you are using pre-ground espresso/coffee, add one more measure of pre-ground coffee and press the button to make another espresso/coffee. To switch the Magnifica off, press the button.

Step 10:
Note: Before switching off, the Magnifica automatically runs a rinse cycle, and a little hot water releases from the coffee spouts and collects in the drip tray. If the Magnifica is not switched off manually, 3 hours after the last operation it will automatically shut itself off for safety.
